A wedding is one of the most important days of your life, so being as prepared as possible will leave you hopefully stress free and relaxed.
Iv had the pleasure of working as a wedding makeup artist for over 10 years now. Doing bridal parties, hens parties, glam tutorial sessions and of course makeup for professional events. I truly enjoy making brides look and feel beautiful on a day where they deserve to be centre of attention. But as any wedding makeup artist can tell you, working behind the scenes is not always easy – things can go wrong. Brides freak out and there can be miscommunications. Doing a makeup check list will ease your mind and help your artist deliver the best experience.
What your artist needs to know:
1. Time, Date and Location
2. Always book a trial
3. Know what makeup look you want, provide pictures as examples if possible and your preferred colour scheme.
4. Let your artist know if you’ll be fake tanning. Where the tan to your trial if possible.
5. Give and exact number of makeups the artist is expected to do on the day. Don’t spring an extra person on them last minute.
6. Do you or your bridesmaids have skin allergies?
7. Know the time you need to start getting ready and your expected finish time. Working in with any photographers/videographers etc.
8. Finalise cost and travel fees. Make sure everything you have asked for is included e.g. false lashes.
Helpful Tips:
1. Provide a run-sheet for your artist and bridemaids. This helps with the ease and flow of the day.
2. Prep your skin months before.
3. Aim to look like yourself, but understand that everyday makeup is different from bridal. You loose 30% in photos so adding more depth and colour is essential.
4. Trial false lashes, make sure they are comfortable to wear all day.
5. Wear a white shirt to your trial
6. Buy touch up products e.g. Lipstick, Gloss, Blotting papers. Concealer and powder if needed.
7. Discuss the makeup look with your bridesmaids so they know what to expect on the day.
8. Choose you’re getting ready room based on the most amount of natural lighting.
